Our Vision for UPside Dance incorporates Creative Learning in our practice as Teachers and Choreographers.  Dance is a educational gem for teaching all ages of student.  In our Creative Movement Classes for Adults and our outreach to schools in Sonoma County for youth, we hope to bring dance to the community to strengthen both dance as an art form, physical/mental health, and creative communication.

Different Kind of Dance Class Format:

UPside Dance classes emphasize photo 2 (2)creative movement, multi-media collaboration, and the ‘famous’ UPside infectious optimism.  Using our background training in Dance, Pilates, Yoga, Ballet, Design, and Performance Art, UPside develops non-traditional and adventurous dance classes.  The world of dance can be mysterious, even the word ‘dance’ can be intimidating to some.  Kate and Tanya invite people to ‘move’ and ‘create’ rather than using technical dance jargon that might discourage newcomers. In UPside, there is a strong belief that everyone is a dancer: “If you can move, you can dance” Kate and Tanya always say.  Although there is dance technique vocabulary taught in the intermediate classes, like ‘plie’, ‘tondu’, ‘jete’, UPside has shifted their teaching method. The movement is described using imagery and action words to increase the body’s vocabulary and mobility. Before you know it…. you’ve created a dance piece and are dancing in full flourish!
